REI Co-op Wonderland 6 Titanium
The Titanium in the name is a pigment, not a pole. REI mixes titanium dioxide into the 75-denier fly to slow the UV ageing that kills campground polyester, and the poles underneath are the same 12 to 16 mm aluminium as the plain Wonderland 6. What that buys is 83.3 square feet on a 120 by 100 inch floor with 78 inches of height at the peak, which is standing room for most adults. The pigment costs three pounds — 25 lb 15.9 oz packed against 22 lb 15 oz uncoated — and about a hundred dollars. Split six ways the floor is 13.9 square feet each, so read this as a roomy four-person tent; REI sold the same shape as the Kingdom for years, and older reviews are about this tent under that name.

A family of four who want to stand up inside, camping where sun rather than storm is what wears a tent out.
Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe
Canvas changes the arithmetic. A Flex-Bow weighs sixty-eight pounds in the 10 by 10, which puts it beyond any notion of carrying, but cotton duck breathes — so it does not rain condensation on you the way a sealed polyester cabin does — and a 16-ounce vinyl floor is not something you can puncture with a tent peg. One-inch galvanised steel tube and spring-steel bow rods hold it up in wind that folds aluminium. It is a four-season tent in the honest sense: people run stoves in these and live in them for a week.

Week-long base camps, hunting seasons and winter camping where the tent is a building.
