Big Agnes Big House
Near-vertical walls, 70 inches of head height in the 4 and 80 in the 6, and no vestibule at all — the Big House spends its whole budget on the room you sleep in. That is the right call for a tent you drive to: gear lives in the car, and what you want at 6am is to stand up and put trousers on. The trade is that in weather there is nowhere covered to leave wet boots, which is exactly what the Bunk House below adds.

Big Agnes Bunk House
The Bunk House is the Big House with the weather protection added back: same 58-square-foot floor and stand-up height, plus a 34-square-foot covered vestibule on one side, 15 on the other, and a 23-square-foot awning over the door. Total covered area comes to more than the floor. It weighs fourteen pounds in the 4-person size, which is a lot even for a car tent, and it costs $100 more than the Big House — both of which buy you the ability to cook, change and sit outside in rain.

Family camping in genuinely wet places, where the covered area matters as much as the sleeping area.
