Big Agnes Fly Creek UL
The Fly Creek is the cheapest way into a 30-ounce double-wall tent, and the saving is paid for in one place: the door. There is one, at the head end, so the person sleeping on the far side crawls over their partner to get out, and the single vestibule is eight square feet of gear space for two people's boots and packs. Everything else is the familiar Big Agnes recipe — hubbed DAC pole, 15D recycled ripstop, 42 inches of head height, semi-freestanding foot corners. As a solo tent it is excellent value; as a two-person tent it is a tent for couples who are genuinely relaxed about climbing over each other.
Best for
A solo hiker who wants the 2-person floor to sprawl in, or a couple who does not mind a single door.
Nemo Hornet OSMO
Thirty-three ounces, two doors, two vestibules, and the smallest packed size of any double-wall tent here — 12.5 by 7.5 inches, which fits across the top of a pack rather than down the side of it. The Hornet gets there by tapering hard: 51 inches wide at the shoulders falling to 43 at the foot, and an 85-inch floor that a six-foot sleeper fills completely. It is a two-person tent in the sense that two people fit, not in the sense that two people are comfortable, and Nemo's own numbers say so.
Best for
A solo hiker who wants a palace, or a pair who have already decided that weight beats elbow room.
